Studying Biomedical Engineering
I would like to talk about what you supposed to expect if you want to study biomedical engineering well first of all I'm a biomedical engineer myself and I'm going to go through all the subjects and the courses that you will be learning during the program of biomedical engineering first I studied biomedical engineering at Damascus University uh I I graduated last year so in Damascus University Engineering in general are five years first two years you will study basic
science basic engineering subjects such as uh math a lot of math actually advanced math physics you will learn about engineering drawing you will learn about biochemistry you will learn about programming introduction to computer science you will learn about of course anatomy and physiology this is very characteristic about biomedical engineering and you will learn maybe some the foundation of electrical engineering foundations of mechanical engineerings science of Aesthetics General engineering subjects
In general this is about the first years in the second year especially in the second semester you will will you will start to learn object you will start to learn sorry subjects are directly related biomedical engineering such as medical devices 1 two 3 you will learn about Hospital management Hospital engineering you'll learn about uh control in medical systems you'll learn about artificial organs artificial lymphs yeah we call it about something artificial lymphs start study under the title of biomechanics which is very
broad fill you study the movement of the body from a mechanical aspect you analyze the walking the cycle of walking and differences between normal human how they how normal human walks how normal human walks and how ill people walk very different depends on the disease or the problem that this person suffering with you will also learn something about um bi Electronics which is simply this subject studies how we could me measure the signals from the body different types of signals like EG Electro graph the the waves of the
brain which of course so different depends on the activity of the brain you also study how ECG AMG ACG which is or also some people call it AKG which is electrocardiograph analyzing the electrical signals of the of the heart EMG for the muscles Etc all those signals that the body produce and we could use them to diagnose diseases to learn how the body react how the Body Works how the electrical signals in the body we could measure it how we could amplify it how we could clear noise because there's a lot of noise uh when
you measure bio signals especially for like if you're measuring the electric activity of a muscle there's the surrounding muscles there's other kind of noses there's noses because of the moving of the arm of parts of the body all of that is bio signals which is very broad filled of course there is practical projects you have to work on and this is another thing I would like to talk about in a different topic this is the there's also of course uh something related to hospital management and Hospital engineering
Hospital engineering is actually when you build a hospital for example the structure of the hospital should be different than a regular building for example for the Imaging section the medical imaging department that contain the MRI machine the X-ray all those heavy bulky machines they're supposed to be first in the first floor because they are they are very they have a huge weight and you can't put them in high floors you have to put them emergency department in the first floor so it has an easy access you have to make sure
that if you have radiation department you isolate this department from other departments and if you have an operation room how the room is supposed to lead to the operation rooms you have clean areas dirty areas so I me areas between Etc all of that and how to regulate if you have clinics in the hospital or outside clinics how to manage amount of patients are entering this Clinic how to manage all these things all that of that is called Hospital engineering is very broad field in each department I think
Maybe I'm going to make a different opposite of episode about Hospital engine because it's very broad field I can't just talk about a few minutes like for example if you have a dialysis Department this department should be of course different than you have dialysis you have to be supply for water for the waters that is during the dialysis machine the waste how are we going to get rid of the waste of the machines how he isolate people with specific diseases especially like hepatitis uh especially heitis AIDS etc those uh
Diseases that are related to the blood so so a lot of things you have to learn in how to design room there's actually a lot of things actually I like Hospital engineering it's very interesting and um when you learn about medical devices there's a lot of topics you have to learn you're not going to learn about every single device out there in the word but you have to learn sometimes the the basics of course because this is what bachelor degree is about you'll learn the basics you they give you the
Start point then you're GNA complete and um also there's of course nucar medicine is also related to Medical Imaging how to use uh something like bit scan you use a substance that has nuclear activity that could be detected by CTC scan MRI Etc different types of MRI functional MRI how we use them to diagnose especially for soft issues how we use them especially m f fmri functional MRI how we use them to to see the functions of the brain a lot of things you could expect to learn well that of course if I want to talk
About each subject alone that the video would be like for hours but maybe I'm going to talk about each one in a different episode um all right uh maybe I forget some subjects of course course of course but this is in general what you expected to study you're supposed to expect to study in biomedical engineering thank you
