On Hypocrisy, Honesty, and the Human Condition Human beings are complicated creatures. We present ourselves in one way, but often live another reality inside. This tension between appearance and truth is what makes hypocrisy so common — and so frustrating. The Masks People Wear Judges, teachers, political leaders, religious figures — all of them wear masks. They speak with authority, wisdom, or holiness, but in private they may struggle with flaws, temptations, or contradictions. Sometimes these masks are necessary to fulfill a role in society.
